EnSE PhD candidate wins Best Paper Award at International Conference


Ph.D. candidate Joline El-Chakhtoura and Prof. Hans Vrouwenvelder​ receiving the award.  

​PhD candidate Joline El-Chakhtoura won the Best Paper Award at the Water Quality Technology Conference and Exposition (WQTC). The conference was held on November 16 to 20 and was organized by the American Water Works Association (AWWA) in New Orleans, Louisiana, USA. 

The WQTC received over 400 research abstracts this year. The evaluation for the award was made based on the quality of the research and the style of the presentation and Joline's work was selected as the Best Research Paper. 

Joline is supervised by Prof. Hans Vrouwenvelder and co-supervised by Prof. Pascal Saikaly. Her research interests are drinking water biological stability, and she investigates bacterial dynamics during water treatment and distribution using 16S pyrosequencing. Her research is made possible through a collaboration between KAUST and TU Delft, The Netherlands.
