Congratulations to the two professors in our Division who participated in the TEDx KAUST Event on March 4! Mark Tester, Professor of Plant Science, and Manuel Aranda, Assistant Professor of Marine Science participated as speakers in the self-organized event focused on the theme Impact Factor along with seven other KAUST community members (students, faculty, and staff).

The BESE Division is very excited to welcome a new Assistant Professor of Bioscience, Sahika Inal. We had a short interview with Professor Inal, where she answered questions about her research, her motivations for coming to KAUST and the delights of discovering the unknown.

We have recently welcomed a new Assistant Professor of Bioscience: Professor Antonio Adamo. We asked Professor Adamo a few questions about his research, which is very much related to metabolic disorders that affect the world today. He also discussed the amazing opportunities to develop his reaseach at KAUST and the potential collaborations with other faculty members and research groups.

The Water Desalination
and Reuse Center (WDRC) hosted a two-day workshop on
Membrane Science and Technology for Water on November 17 and 18. The event was
sponsored by the Office of Competitive Research Funds (OCRF) and chaired by
Professor Suzana Nunes; the workshop co-chairs were Professor TorOve Leiknes
and Professor Pascal Saikaly.

On September 3 and 4 the KAUST Community had the opportunity
to participate in the Open Houses organized in the context of the 5 Year
Anniversary. It was an invitation for all the members of the community to visit
the academic campus, meet with our Faculty, researchers and students, and see
first hand some of the research done in the University.
