The Water Desalination and Reuse Center (WDRC) hosted a two-day workshop on Membrane Science and Technology for Water on November 17 and 18. The event was sponsored by the Office of Competitive Research Funds (OCRF) and chaired by Professor Suzana Nunes; the workshop co-chairs were Professor TorOve Leiknes and Professor Pascal Saikaly. Professor Jean Frechet, Vice President for Research at KAUST introduced the event.

The workshop featured presentations by visiting academics from several European groups working in this field, including researchers from the University of Essen-Duisburg, University Nova Lisboa, Imperial College London, ETH Zurich, University of the Basque Country, Izmir Institute of Technology, RWTH Aachen University, Ghent University, Institute on Membrane Technology Rende and the University of Oxford. The main focus of the workshop was exploiting the new materials for membrane manufacture and emerging membrane-based water treatment processes.

The event also included a poster session featuring the work of students, postdoctoral fellows and researchers from KAUST and several universities across Europe.
