Research in the Biological and Environmental Science and Engineering Division is focused on the molecular and cellular mechanisms through which organisms sense, adapt and respond to the environment and the development of innovative technologies. 
BESE professors are organized in faculty communities that are associated with different research fields, such as cellular and molecular biology, biophysics and bioimaging, marine science, microbiology, plant sciences, bioengineering, and water science and technologies.
