Abstract:
In
response to the COVID-19 pandemic, Wastewater surveillance (WS)
approach is getting more attention since WS is able to capture the
genetic signal of SARS-CoV-2 shed by people with and without symptoms.
Accordingly, WS to serve as an early warning that COVID-19 is spreading
around the world. In this talk, the past and current WS case studies
including South Korea with ddPCR will be presented.
Bio:
Dr.
Sungpyo Kim received his PhD from SUNY at Buffalo in 2005 in
environmental engineering. His research group at Korea University have
focused on the fate of microcontaminants in aquatic environment. From
2020, his group began wastewater surveillance for the presence of
pathogens including SARS‑CoV‑2, and are currently a leading research
group for expanding their efforts to South Korea.
