Associate Professor Raquel Peixoto has been appointed president of , recognizing her leadership in the field and her innovative work on the role of microbiomes in environmental conservation.
Peixoto, who leads the , has focused her research on using microbiomes to protect coral reefs from the impacts of climate change. Her studies explore how beneficial microorganisms can enhance coral resilience, offering new approaches to conserving marine ecosystems.
