09 January, 2025

KAUST is delighted to announce that Suzana Nunes, Professor of Chemical and Environmental Science and Engineering, was elected member of the World Academy of Sciences.

She was selected based on her outstanding achievements in chemistry, especially in polymeric materials and membranes that have advanced the chemical, pharmaceutical and chemical industries. The Academy further noted how her innovations align with sustainability targets. Another contribution leading to her membership has been her dedication to the education and training of scientists in Saudi Arabia, Brazil and Germany.

The Academy collaborates closely with scientists and scientific organizations, governments, educational institutions, and funding organizations to build science and sustainable growth to solve major challenges facing developing countries.

As a member of the Academy, Suzana Nunes expects to contribute even more to Education in the Global South, particularly in topics related to chemistry and sustainability, and promote the role of women in STEM.
