Professor Alexandre Rosado elected Fellow of The Explorers Club

02 June, 2025

Professor Alexandre Rosado has been elected as a Fellow International of The Explorers Club—the highest level of membership in the organization dedicated to advancing field research and scientific exploration.

Fellow status is awarded to individuals who have made documented contributions to scientific knowledge through field expeditions. Professor Rosado’s research focuses on microbial life in extreme environments, with fieldwork spanning Antarctica, the Amazon Rainforest, volcanic and desert regions of Arabia, deep-sea hydrothermal vents, and East Africa. His work explores how microbial communities adapt to environmental extremes, with implications for climate research, ecosystem resilience, and astrobiology.

Reflecting on the recognition, Professor Rosado said:

"My work has always been driven by a simple, enduring curiosity: how does life adapt to the most extreme conditions on Earth—and what can that teach us about survival, resilience, and our place in the universe? Whether it's investigating microbes in Red Sea hydrothermal vents or simulating Martian environments in the Saudi desert, every expedition brings new questions and new stories. To now be part of a community that values that spirit—of wonder, of science, of adventure—is truly humbling."

Founded in 1904, The Explorers Club supports scientific exploration and fieldwork across land, sea, air, and space. Its Fellowship includes professionals working in science, conservation, and education worldwide.
